This report seeks approval from the Director of Environment and Sustainability to approve the bus priority improvement proposals on Buckland Crescent and in the St Mark’s Square/Regent’s Park Road area. These schemes are designed to bring bus journey time and reliability benefits to streets that have been identified by Transport for London (TfL) as areas where bus journey times and reliability improvements are needed. Public consultations on each of the proposals detailed in this report were undertaken from 6 December 2023 to 6 January 2024.
The report follows a consideration of relevant policies, data collected during the development of the schemes, an Equality Impact Assessment, and full public consultations on all of the proposals. The schemes meet the objectives of We Make Camden by helping create clean, vibrant, and sustainable places and making it easier for people to travel by active modes of transport and public transport, which would help to encourage residents to choose more sustainable modes of transport such as walking and public transport. This would in turn contribute to improving air quality and lowering carbon emissions in the borough.
THAT the Director of Environment and Sustainability, in consultation with the Cabinet Member for a Sustainable Camden, having considered the rationale and criteria for the proposals in this report, having due regard to the needs set out in section 149 of the Equality Act 2010, and subject to compliance with relevant statutory requirements and detailed design:
i. approves the proposals on Buckland Crescent and in the St Mark’s Square/Regent’s Park Road area, as summarised in section 2 of this report;
ii. and delegates to the Chief Engineer the authority to take any further decisions required for the implementation of the recommended proposals.
